Gallagher & Turner is a modern & contemporary art gallery and specialist picture framer based in Newcastle upon Tyne, established in 1990 by Paul Gallagher and Clare Turner.

Formerly based in the St. Thomas Street workshops, our gallery on St. Mary's Place hosts a lively programme of exhibitions, while our framing workshop in Birtley houses our technical expertise.

Gallery opening hours: Tuesday to Friday 10.30am - 5pm, Saturday 10.30am - 4pm.
Workshop open by appointment

 


Exhibitions

We host a changing programme of exhibitions every year featuring both well known, international artists and local, emerging artists. We also have a wide range of artwork for sale at our gallery and in our online store.

We have exhibited and framed work by many highly regarded artists, including David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Barbara Rae, Antony Gormley, and Elizabeth Blackadder. With over sixty years combined experience, we specialise in Modern British art, Japanese woodblock prints and work from mid-Century France and America.

Framing


Our bespoke, made to order, framing service creates top quality frames to perfectly suit an artwork, photograph and or other treasured object. We have experience of framing everything, from 18th Century portraiture through to contemporary art, posters, flags, certificates, medals and photographs.

We have framed works for many museums and universities including The Hatton Gallery, The Laing Art Gallery, Auckland Castle, Northumbria University and Newcastle University.

Paul Gallagher

Born in Jesmond in 1964, Paul has been framing pictures since 1986, developing his own range of expert finishes and mastering the art over the course of four decades. An artist in his own right, the surrounding area of the beautiful River Wear, and Durham and Northumberland scenery provide constant inspiration. He has exhibited at Gallagher & Turner, Northumbria University Gallery, the Samling Foundation at Windermere, Washington Arts Centre, Darlington Art Gallery and Kings Place Gallery in London.

Clare Turner

Clare studied History of Modern Art & Design at Northumbria University, and after working in a number of other galleries,  began working in the framing industry in 1988. A founding partner of Gallagher & Turner, Clare ran the gallery side of the business until the early 2000s, before exhibitions resumed in 2015. Clare now looks after our new, dedicated gallery space and showroom in St. Mary's Place. With over thirty years of fine art and framing customer service experience, Clare has the expert knowledge to guide your framing choices.

Rosie Morris

Our Gallery Manager Rosie is an artist and Lecturer at Newcastle University. She studied Painting at Loughborough University and has a Master of Fine Art from Newcastle University. Interested in the history and atmosphere of spaces, her work includes architectural installations that involve painting, print-making, light-projection, sculpture, sound, film and text. She exhibits in gallery and heritage locations in the UK and Europe.
