Gallagher & Turner was established in Newcastle in 1990 by Paul Gallagher and Clare Turner. Formerly based in the St. Thomas Street workshops, our gallery on St. Mary's Place has a lively, changing programme of exhibitions, whilst our workshop in Hoult's Yard houses all of our technical expertise to get your frames looking beautiful.
We have exhibited and framed work by many highly regarded artists, including David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Barbara Rae, Antony Gormley, and Elizabeth Blackadder. With over sixty years' combined experience, we specialise in Modern British art, as well as antique Japanese woodblock prints, but often show work by emerging local and national artists.
We have framed works for several museums, universities and other institutions, including The Hatton Gallery, The Laing Art Gallery, Auckland Castle, Northumbria University and Newcastle University.
With experience of framing everything from 18th Century portraiture through contemporary art, posters and family photographs, we're sure to be able to provide top-notch service for your framing needs.
Born in Jesmond in 1964, Paul Gallagher still lives in the North East. Paul has been framing pictures since 1986, developing his own range of expert finishes and mastering the art over the course of four decades. An artist in his own right, the surrounding area of the beautiful River Wear, and Durham and Northumberland scenery provide constant inspiration. He has exhibited at Gallagher & Turner, Northumbria University Gallery, the Samling Foundation at Windermere, Washington Arts Centre, Darlington Art Gallery and Kings Place Gallery in London.
Clare studied History of Modern Art & Design at Northumbria University, and after working in a number of other galleries, began working in the framing industry in 1988. A founding partner of Gallagher & Turner, Clare ran the gallery side of the business until the early 2000s, before exhibitions resumed in 2015. Clare now looks after our new, dedicated gallery space and showroom in St. Mary's Place. With over thirty years of fine art and framing customer service experience, Clare has the expert knowledge to guide your framing choices.
Oliver was born in London in 1994, and has been working for Gallagher & Turner since early 2017, in both our gallery and framing workshop. He studied Fine Art at Newcastle University, graduating in 2016, and previously worked as an assistant for several artists across the UK. He continues to work as a practicing artist, curator, and writer, and regularly exhibits both nationally and internationally, specialising in abstract painting and sculpture. With an expansive knowledge of Modern and contemporary art, you'll find him either manning our gallery, ready to help with any questions about our exhibitions or framing, or perfectly fitting together our customers' frames out in our workshop.
