Keith Vaughan (1912-1977) was a self-taught painter, draughtsman, designer, and writer. In the 1940s, with his friends John Minton and Graham Sutherland, he was one of the leading exponents of Neo-Romanticism. His later work, in which he concentrated on the theme of the male nude in a landscape setting, became grander and more simplified, moving towards idiosyncratic abstraction.
