Painting outdoors directly from life is what drives my work. As a plein air landscape painter, it is the lived experience of analysing and interpreting the scene infront of me that I want to come through, with the fundamentals of composition, tone, colour and lighting effects playing a key role in every impressionistic brushmark.
The light brings everything to life. I always strive to convey a sense of this when painting on location, as it is this magic quality that helps give the work visual impact. I like to return to subject matter in my work to fully understand it better, working directly from life, whether it be a rural scene or coastal seascape. I hope that my work inspires others to look carefully at the world around them to notice its beauty and vibrant colour.

Stuart Jones was born in Middlesbrough and lives in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he gained an MA in Fine Art at Newcastle University and studied a PGCE. He is a member of the North of England Art Club and has exhibited with nationally acclaimed British plein air painters including David Curtis ROI RSMA, Haidee-Jo Summers ROI ARSMA and Andrew Farmer AROI.
