Thrifty Tips - Theresa Easton

Thrifty Tips
Letterpress and screenprint on paper
59.5 x 36 cm

“Theresa Easton is a printmaker based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Printmaking provides a platform for Easton’s interpretation of social history and cultural commentary. As an artist with a socially engaged practice, Easton enjoys a collaborative approach to making artwork. Between the sixteenth and nineteenth century broadsides were typical forms of printed communication. Pasted to the sides of buildings, walls and notice boards, they displayed adverts, news and proclamations. The North East has a rich tradition of broadside printers and it is in this tradition that Thrifty Tips sits. The type for ‘Thrifty Tips’ is printed using a Vandercook Press at Hole Editions, using original type from the Kirkleatham Museum collection. The age of the type displays the wear and tear of its original use in a jobbing press. The broadside contains original thrifty tips gathered from the visiting public during the 2013 Festival of Thrift. These tips relate to the objects, ephemera and print making equipment in the Stores Collection at Kirkleatham Museum.”
