Opening Thursday 21st March:

Ellsworth Kelly | Albert Irvin
Oliver Doe | Josh Raz

Exhibition Open 21st March - 27th April 2019

In Formations, two giants of 20th Century abstract painting, Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015) and Albert Irvin (1922-2015), collide with the work of young Newcastle-based painters Oliver Doe and Josh Raz in an exciting trans-historical exhibition that explores how we see the modern world through painting and printmaking, as well as the influence of modernism on contemporary art, and how elusive views of our world can be rendered through bold colour and dynamic forms.

We treat every picture framing job as special: a snapshot, a postcard, a medal or a sketch are all worthy. Small photographs may seem humble compared to large oil paintings, but may have taken much more time to create.  Framing is an art form in presentation, but is also a skill: it is about preservation, knowledge of materials, and careful handling, all learnt over years of experience.

We do gilding and frame restoration, provide a picture conservation service, picture installation services, and all our framing is carried out in our new, specialist workshop outside the city centre.

Information about our modern and contemporary art gallery, where we hold exhibitions and exhibit work by well-known local, national and international artists is in both our 'Exhibitions' and 'Artists' sections. Almost all of the work we show is for sale, with ranges of affordable pieces alongside special pieces by world-renowned artists. We also specialise in Japanese woodblock prints, and always have a rotating stock of exciting pieces, both Modern and antique.

We are pleased to be able to offer the Own Art scheme, allowing you to spread the cost of buying great contemporary art. Own Art is supported by Arts Council England, and allows buyers to borrow from £100 up to £25,000 over ten months interest-free (representative 0% APR). This can be used to purchase one or multiple works of art, or put towards the cost of a more expensive artwork.
