Deborah Snell
Deborah Snell is an artist, illustrator and printmaker based in Newcastle upon Tyne, producing detailed artwork in pencil, ink, etching, mezzotint and screen printing. She’s interested in narratives, real and imagined and takes her inspiration from the local urban landscape, past industries and historic crumbling buildings and also mechanical toys, theatre and moving images.
‘I enjoy drawing life's oddities and humorous moments, anthropomorphic animals and confused characters in mysterious shadowy settings. I have exhibited my work in various galleries and commissions have included installations, projections and illustrations. I like hiding away, listening to music and creating narratives but I also like to work collaboratively with other artists to exchange ideas and organise community art projects and to teach printmaking.’
Deborah Snell studied at Northumbria University and holds an Illustration MFA and a BA in Printed Surface Decoration and Illustration. She’s been commissioned by Northern Print, Newcastle University, Enchanted Parks and Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.
