Emine Thompson (Silverkupe)
Emine Thompson (Silverkupe)
“Emine, who created Silverkupe jewellery, is a designer-maker of contemporary jewellery. She lives in Whitley Bay and works from her studio at the Biscuit Box Studios in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Her work often explores amalgamation of materials and techniques to achieve harmonious wearable objects. She combines traditional silversmithing techniques with metal clay techniques. Emine utilizes centuries old techniques such as mokume-gane, keum-boo and enamling where she fuses different materials (copper, silver, gold, enamel and concrete) to achieve unique high end-products. She draws inspiration from the richness of her Turkish culture, which combines eastern and western design elements. Her design and architectural background is apparent in her minimalist creations though some of her jewellery features distinctive textures and patinas as well. She has launched her new “colour seeds” series, where she combines her creations with explosion of colour and gold in Spring 2019. Every new piece she creates is unique and she pushes her own creative boundaries with her experimental creative practice.
She shares her love of creating jewellery with others in her silver clay workshops within her studio and at six other galleries across North East. She is a member of the Network Artists North East, the Association for Contemporary Jewellery, and The Craft Council Directory.”
